Why does the U.K. get Quantum of Solace two weeks before the US?
Because all the good Quantum Physicists were European?
Either that or Dame Judi Dench lobbied for it?
Because Bond is British?
Is the question “why is the UK first” or “why do movies still have separate release dates”?
The later, with the caveat that language translation isn’t needed.
Secretly, I think it is because the movie industry hates change.
Officially, it is “very difficult” to coordinate a simultaneous worldwide release and they use the success of one market to judge how hard they should shill something in another market.
I agree that it is dumb, but don’t begrudge other markets being first now and again if they’re going to be stupid about it.
Yeah, for a movie where they’re not really sure if it will do well, I can understand trying it in one market first. But, come on, this is James Bond. It will sell.
I wonder if (conspiracy theory mode activated) they’re doing it so they can say “look how much it was downloaded before we even released it!”
no conspiracy, astroturf piracy is documented. though it might take me a bit to dig up linkage.
because we get damn near everything else a month in advance. and poor australia, oh man. they might have rock band 1 by now.
