He also made some more ambitious improvements. Below, check out the amazing job he did improving the pace of the Kenobi v. Vader lightsabre battle. This is what Star Wars: Special Edition should have been.

Michael Cere has a new film coming out in August: "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World". The tagline is "An Epic of Epic Epicness". It comes out the same day as "Eat, Pray, Love" (Julia Roberts) and "The Expendables" (Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, etc.), so we're going to have a commercial showdown at the box office of girl movie versus guy movie versus geek movie.

The people over at Star Wars: Uncut have cut up the original Star Wars film into 15 second clips and setup a web site where fans can re-film each clip in the manner of their choosing. Once all of 15 second increments have been re-filmed and uploaded, they will stitch them all together into one zany, geek-tastic movie. They have 50% of the film done already and have a trailer (below).

I wonder if this will turn into the newest Internet craze, with many movies being remade by fans (at least until the MPAA throws a hissy fit).

Alisa and I caught Pixar's Up three nights ago. What a great film! Possibly Pixar's best film to date, and that's saying a lot. It opened the Cannes Film Festival this year and received an 8-minute standing ovation, Roger Ebert gave it four stars, etc.

Up is one of those films where the marketing for the film didn't really match the actual movie (another such film is the excellent Zero Effect). The trailers made Up look like a campy adventure movie, but the truth is that the trailers showed only the campiest parts of the film and little else. While there certainly is adventure and campiness, Up is also sentimental, sad, sweet, and even romantic.

I can't puzzle out how kids would react to Up. Perhaps the deeper aspects of the film go over their heads, and for them it really is just a campy adventure film.

Bring tissues.
